The benefits crafting can have to your mental health

Hello, I hope you’re all okay?

While the weight of the world seems heavy right now, I wanted to do a post about the benefits crafting can have on your mental health.  As you may know I’ve always been very open about my ongoing struggles with anxiety, it’s something I’ve suffered with my whole life and it’s the reason I started my business. I think that now more than ever we need an escape for when things feel a bit overwhelming, which is why I seem to relying on it more and more at the moment! My mind is usually going a million miles an hour and crafting allows me to forget about the day to day worries that come with modern life, and I’m so keen to share that with you too!

I thought you might be interested in some of the benefits crafting’s been proven to have, which I’ve listed below*:

- Crafting and doing something creative is commonly used as a form of therapy, particularly to treat depression, and has been shown to lift a person’s mood, turning negative emotions into positive ones.

- Crafting has actually been proven to reduce anxiety in a similar way to meditating! Think of it like yoga for the mind.

- Making something is proven to release the same chemicals in the brain that promote joy and well-being, while also reducing stress hormones.

- Craft has been prescribed to patients since the late 19th century, and was used to treat soldiers suffering anxiety during the first world war!

Not only this, the sense of achievement you get from making something with your own two hands is so rewarding and satisfying, it really is the best natural high!

So if you’re feeling like you need something to take your mind off the weight of the world right now, and if everything feels a little heavy, I really would recommend trying something creative. It’s the best self care and I just know you’ll love it!

Let me know how you get on if you decide to give it a try :) Bea x
